This month Google finally unveiled its plans for wearables, announcing its new Android Wear Operating System, dedicated to smartwatches and other similar wearable devices. Motorola and LG were the first to announce Android Wear smartwatches: the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch, which will be made in collaboration with Google. The LG G Watch will feature a square design and an LCD touch screen display. LG’s CEO of mobile communications said that LG would “pull out all the stops in both design and engineering [...] the LG G is developed in close collaboration with Google“.

Today, LG Electronics posted a new tweet on the company’s official Twitter account, with a new picture of the upcoming LG G watch. The image offers a good look at the upcoming Android Wear based LG G Watch. The first thing you will notice is how different LG G Watch’s watch face is from the Moto 360, mostly due to the completely different shape: square in the case of the LG G Watch, while the Moto 360 features a round design. It is also worth mentioning that the LG G Watch looks very similar to the Pebble smartwatch from a design point of view.

Unfortunately, we still don’t have any idea about the specs of the upcoming LG G Watch. As we mentioned, the LG G Watch is being developed in collaboration with Google, though at this time it is not clear what exactly this means. We will probably find out more about it at this year’s Google I/O developer conference. While the company did not unveil new devices at last year’s conference, it has done so in the past when it unveiled the Nexus 7 tablet at the 2012 Google I/O developer conference.

The tweet, which you can , also mentions that the upcoming LG G smartwatch is “Coming Soon!“; as reported previously, the first smartwatch from LG, the LG G Watch, will be released to worldwide markets by mid 2014, during the second quarter of the year. The other unveiled smartwatch powered by Google’s Android Wear platform, the Moto 360, is going to be released in the United States this Summer, and in other worldwide markets soon after. It seems that the LG G Watch will be the first Android Wear powered smartwatch with the Moto 360 following soon after.

We are very excited about these two smartwatches that will be powered by Google’s upcoming Android Wear mobile Operating System, which features fitness tracking (it will be able to track your speed, distance and time when running, walking or cycling) but also Google Maps and Google Now integration. In fact, judging from the initial videos shown by Google, Android Wear can be described as Google Now for your smartwatch, which is very exciting. We would like to know what you think about the LG G Watch, the first Android Wear smartwatch and if you would buy one when it will be released in a few months. As usual, use the dedicated section below to leave a comment.
