The iMovie App – Begginer’s Guide

Well, hello again! Today I am going to tell you a few things about the app iMovie. Even though it got me quite confused at the beginning, and it still does sometimes, even now when i got the hang of it quite well, i can tell you that it’s an awesome video editor when you’re on the go or if you don’t have anything else ready at hand that could help you with this process.? I’m not sure yet if it’s as easy to use as the iMovie on the Mac or if it’s even easier. I consider myself to be an iPhone lover, i mean i totally love apps for iOS like iWork or iLife but iMovie it’s something different.? You may ask yourself: Is it as good as iMovie on the Mac? Well… no, it isn’t but that’s ok for certain matters. That’s mostly for you to decide, because it depends on how complicated your video edits are. It may also have some delay, but again that depends on the kind of editing you are decided to do with it.? So, let’s take you through some hints and tips on how you can make awesome videos by successfully using? iMovie for iOS.
As I told you before, this app is not as powerful as the ‘mother version’ of it on Mac, so just go along keeping this in mind and you will save yourself from the frustrations you could get by expecting more than it can actually do for you. Even though Apple hasn’t updated neither iMovie nor iPhoto and they can’t really take full advantage of the?A6X chip, iMovie for iOS it is a pretty powerful tablet app. You may also know the app GarageBand which is quite similar, and just as the latter one, iMovie has been designed as a lighter alternative to the Mac version of movie editing.
Further, i will take you through some basic steps you may find useful as you go along. This includes shooting a clip, adding music to your video, maybe even photos, or how to make some easy edits. Keep in mind that this is not a trailer (which are awesome, but harder to edit and they may require more shots than one, as i have presented below), it is just a simple project that may help you in your iMovie for iOS experience.
If you need these things, this app also gives you the option to add titles or texts to your movies. It’s been a great ride so far, so if you got to this point i recommend you to try it. So here’s what you need to do if you want to play with this feature as well. It’s quite easy and it won’t take long.
Just? tap twice on the clip you want to put a title on, or a text and the menu screen will appear. All you have to do now is tap again, this time on Title Style option and you will be able to see the text menu. Exactly as it is shown in the picture bellow.
The way the title will appear in your video lies on the type of? template you have chosen. As i told you in the beginning,? there are a few inconveniences with using the iOS version of iMovie, for instance you cannot modify the duration of the title on the clip (that is only available on Mac version), nor the font of the text. Unfortunately, you cannot even completely? erase the location information shown on your screen. If this doesn’t work for you, maybe you should switch to the Mac version of the app and continue the editing on your laptop.
In addition, you can modify the transitions in your clip likewise. In this version your options are restricted to only three: none, Theme, or cross-dissolve. Unlike the title feature, this one offers you the possibility of changing? the timing of the transition, but as i said before even this one is limited.
Now, that you know? a little more about iMovie for iOS than when you started reading my article, time to draw some conclusions.
At a first sight iMovie is an awesome, pretty easy to use app, and also a powerful video editor that you can carry with you on your device. As i said before, once you understand it and know exactly what to expect from it (before you start working with it you need to know what it can do, and where it’s limitations begin, in order to not find yourself in the situation where you would be unable to edit your videos properly).
Considering you don’t want to do a highly complicated edit of a video, then iMovie for iOS is most likely what you need. But if you need some proper edits i strongly recommend you to use the iMovie for Mac and save yourself from the inconveniences this app may create. Of course, if it suits the case, you can always start the editing on your iOS (a rough edit), and then carry on the process with the desktop version.
