The iPhone – 5 Ways To Stay Silently Connected

Apple’s iOS 6 Do Not Disturb function came out and it’s turning out to be one of its best features. Its ease of access coupled with its available options makes it a whole lot easier to explore the very different options available to keep your phone from disturbing you. Nonetheless with enough practice and dedication you can get the same result without this option.

Except the obvious option of turning off your phone completely to keep it for bothering you there are another few options for smartly keeping your phone silenced, but still on for notifications of various importance throughout the day. These options could make the difference if you set out to be a polite phone user in public:

1. Vibrate Mode: the phone we used was set to vibrate and flash for its primary notification system. Vibrate mode can prove itself extremely useful if you don’t want to impose a ringer on everyone else while your phone is in your hands. Some people have trained themselves to be able to wake up by using the vibrating alarm but that doesn’t mean this mode will always be satisfactory for them. Settings > Sounds > Vibrate on Ring.

2. Silent Mode: If you want your phone to reach an extreme quietness just switch off the sound and ringers from the Settings > Sounds.

3. Do Not Disturb Mode: This silences every notification one might get and you can respond to missed calls with an SMS that provides your callers with the reasons why you are not available at that specific time; this will be done with use of Reply with Message feature.

Most of the Android launchers and dialers include this, but its availability rests on the will of the manufacturers. If you have iOS 6, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb. If you want your favorites to still be able to call you, you can set up a VIP list. If someone calls you repeatedly and you might think it’s an emergency you need to enable Repeated Calls mode.

4. Airplane Mode: This is particularly useful when and if your Do Not Disturb falters and you still receive notifications, or simply just want your phone to shut up but still to be able to use some apps. This can also be helpful to conserve power if you’re on the go and running out of it; you’ll have to remember though that you’ll be completely isolated from notifications and calls until this is turned off.

5. There’s an App for these specific needs: Ringtone Maker Plus Silent Sound. Let’s say that you don’t want to keep your phone completely silent and you just want to ignore a specific person or other random unwanted callers. This is an app that will let the iPhone users to filter out specific numbers or callers by assigning them silent ringtones so that you hear that important call from that special someone while easily ignoring all the other unimportant calls.
