TSMC Began Shipments of New-Generation Processors for Apple Devices

According to the Wall Street Journal TSMC, a contracted manufacturer, began shipments of processors customized for Apple.
Despite the fact that the designation of the chips supplied is not yet specified, it is safe to say that we are talking about A8 products, which will become the “heart” of the new-generation iPhone smartphones. The 20–nanometer processors are?rumored to have four cores and to support 64–bit instructions.
It is noted that the production of chips at TSMC has begun in the first quarter. But only now the shipments are beginning to drift out of the production plants of the Taiwanese company. So now Apple partners can start assembling the new iPhone.
It is also reported that Apple intends to continue its cooperation with TSMC. In particular, next year they will master production of A-series processors at a leading-edge technology with the norms of 16 nanometers.
The partnership with the company from Cupertino is of paramount importance for TSMC. According to analysts, Apple will bring orders to TSMC of up to 10% of its total revenue this year, which could exceed $20 billion.
Wall Street Journal adds that part of Apple’s demand in microprocessors will be satisfied by Samsung – its direct competitor in the market of smartphones and tablets.
