This Monday Yahoo made a statement according to which they are preparing to acquire the well known microblogging platform Tumblr for $1.1 billion. Tumblr is also known for its high involvement with Apple’s iOS environment.

Yahoo stated in their press release that they promise not to fail with this acquisition as well.  As one of the search giants, Yahoo is also managing another photo sharing website, Flickr, which we are sure you heard about. Flickr was bought by Yahoo in 2005 and it represents the main reason why people may be concerned regarding the Tumblr business.

Regarding Tumblr’s traffic we can tell you that each month it gathers over 300 million unique visitors and every day 120 000 new users create an account. Also, the microblogging platform reached the number of 900 posts/second, while each month 24 billion sites are spent on the same platform.

Another fact is that more than half of the users which use the platform from a mobile device, use the official application Tumblr mobile which is compatible with both the Android from Google  and the iOS from Apple.

The Tumblr application for Apple’s iOS is one of the most used application for free social networking and it is available now in the App Store.  Starting with Monday morning, the Tumblr app reached top four most downloaded application, acquirable for free in the Social Networking section of the App Store. Besides, almost 164 000 reviewers gave it an average score of four stars from five.

Yahoo also mentioned something about improving the search infrastructure of the platform, so that users could discover other users and content in an easier way than they do now. Also, Yahoo is expecting Tumblr to come with 50 billion blog posts on the Yahoo media and in the search reviews section.

The Yahoo CEO, Marissa Mayer stated that Tumblr is actually recreating the way people express themselves online, and that even though Yahoo and Tumblr are different in so many ways, there are also completing each other in different ways.

She also said that while Yahoo represents the original social media network, Tumblr represents the fastest and biggest media platform people fancy nowadays. Both of them represent all kind of brands, brands which are already known and brands that have just gone out of the shell. Most of all, both Yahoo and Tumblr are all about the design, the subscribers and about everyday’s sources of inspiration and surprise.

David Karp, the CEO of Tumblr tried to set aside the concerns people rose in the platform’s communities by saying that the roadmap and the team that gave life to the platform will remain the same.

He said that the Tumblr team is happy to receive the support and help of the Yahoo team, creative people who aspire to the same thing Tumblr team does: to create the Internet’s most complete canvas.  Tumblr will get better and faster if they will have more resources to rely on.

In the same Monday, a new update for the Tumblr official app was also released. The variant 3.3.2 from Tumblr comes with a new way to choose the kind of post you are about to upload and application functions on the existent posts.
