On Monday, with the release of iOS 8.1, the Apple Pay mobile payment system announced by Apple early in Septembertook off. Now it is only available in the United States, and the company has not yet mentioned when the service will come to other countries. The first users of the system have already appreciated the convenience of the new Apple technology.

Apple Pay partners with the three largest plastic cards issuers (Visa, MasterCard and American Express), about 220 000 real stores, popular applications, and the next year – even 500 banks operating  in the United States.

McDonald’s and Subways restaurants, American Eagle Outfitters, Bloomingdales and Macy’s clothing stores, Chevron and Texaco gas stations, Disney Store and Toys’R’Us toy stores and many others allow payments via Apple Pay . The system will let you pay for taxi via Uber and Lyft applications, rent via Airbnb and HotelTonight and buy products in a number of mobile applications.

To use Apple Pay one has to register their bank card in the Passbook application either through photographing a new card or adding a card, which data is already stored in iTunes. The user can use NFC-terminals to make payments, authorizing them through Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The data of the credit cards are converted to an electronic account, and the sellers do not have the access to them. In turn, Apple promises not to collect the data on users purchases.

The video below demonstrates the payment process via Apple Pay at McDonald’s. The cashier forgot to press the button before the transaction, and therefore was able to make the payment only at the second attempt.

It is worth mentioning that Apple Pay has a number of limitations. For now payments in real stores are available only to of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners – which is why Apple’s vice president Eddy Cue has already made quite a logical prediction that initially most transactions will be via applications. In addition, Apple Pay does not work with corporate credit cards and prepaid gift cards issued by shops.
