In 2020 the automotive industry will see 370 million devices integrated with smartphones, says the IHS Automotive research firm. We are speaking about CarPlay systems, Google Projected Mode, MirrorLink and others. For reference, by the end of 2014 there will only be 6.9 million such devices.

In this forecast the role of suppliers of one third of all the equipment the analysts assign to the Aha by Harman or Ford SYNC AppLink. It is expected that the number of cars equipped with Google Projected Mode, in 2020 will be 100 million (before the end of this year – 86,000). The vehicles with CarPlay, which in 2014 amount to 105000, in 2020 will grow in number to 94 million – with year-on-year growth of 210%.

The technology allows CarPlay to empower conventional car multimedia systems with control functions of the the iPhone and iPad connected to them. And these are not limited to simply file playback and voice communication: the user will be able to access to many applications installed on the Apple device, and they can be started with not only the touch screen desktop, but also by means of voice assistant Siri.

This option will firsthand be implemented in Ferrari, Honda, Hyndai, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz. There are two options to get the CarPlay: buy a car with the original technology supported or equip it with the third-party head unit. At the same time Mercedes-Benz has promised to add the appropriate functionality to some models of vehicles already sold in the future.
