If you are not sure of the properties of your iPhone, then you are able to check the baseband following the next steps: go to settings, select general, then tap on about and you will find the modem firmware. Also, updating to iOS 6.1. might automatically update your baseband. In order to be  sure this will not happen you have to follow some steps, as it follows: use the Redsnow tool, go to extras, click on it and you will be taken to e menu that displays the even more option among other options. Choose it and then click on Restore and choose not to upgrade BB.
